Pivotal Health is building its Government Affairs function from the ground up, and this Director of Advocacy role is the team's first dedicated hire, reporting to the General Counsel & Chief Government Affairs Officer. You'll own and coordinate the company's government affairs workstreams, including leading calls, setting agendas, assigning follow-ups, and tracking completion of commitments. You'll engage directly with federal agencies (HHS, CMS, DOL), members of Congress, and congressional staff on healthcare programs and policy issues.
Key responsibilities include reading and synthesizing economic, epidemiological, and healthcare research to identify key findings and assess competing analyses; developing clear points of view on policy issues and advocating for them to persuade stakeholders; and helping shift the function from reactive engagement toward proactive, strategic advocacy. You'll lead calls and coordinate with diverse stakeholders—doctors, lawyers, CEOs, CFOs—in group settings, and partner closely with the General Counsel, internal colleagues, and external government affairs professionals to build processes and priorities from scratch.
You'll need 5–7 years of government affairs, public policy, or related experience, with federal-level exposure including direct work with federal agencies and healthcare policy. Direct experience engaging members of Congress or congressional staff is required. You should have a track record of developing and advocating for clear points of view, strong project management and organizational skills, and the ability to read, evaluate, and compare research strength. Comfort operating with ambiguity, building structure from a blank slate, and balancing hands-on tactical work with strategic thinking is essential.
Nice-to-have qualifications include experience with the No Surprises Act, IDR process, HHS/CMS/Medicare/Medicaid, or prior lobbying.
