Harvey is an AI platform transforming legal and professional services through frontier agentic AI, enterprise-grade infrastructure, and deep domain expertise. As the founding Director of Government Affairs & Public Policy, you will build this function from the ground up, reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer.
Your primary focus is public policy: educating and informing policymakers, establishing Harvey as a credible, substantive voice in critical conversations about AI governance, the future of the legal profession, and access to justice. You will own strategy and engagement frameworks across federal, state, and local bodies in the US, EMEA, and APAC regions—where bar associations, licensing authorities, and judicial/legislative bodies are setting consequential AI policy.
Key responsibilities include: building and maintaining direct relationships with policymakers, regulators, bar associations, and judicial/legislative bodies; developing Harvey's policy narrative on AI governance and the future of legal services in partnership with senior leadership; serving as a strategic bridge between external policy environments and Harvey's product and go-to-market teams; surfacing emerging compliance requirements and public-sector opportunities; and building and leading regional government affairs teams as the function scales.
You will be the person in policy meetings, not a coordinator. You'll write the playbook as it doesn't exist yet. This is a builder's role requiring you to establish credibility, maintain bipartisan relationships, and ensure Harvey is well-positioned to serve government legal departments and regulated industries.
Ideal candidates have progressive depth in public policy, government affairs, or regulatory work—either in-house at major tech/professional services companies, in senior government roles, or in advisory capacities at leading firms. A J.D. is strongly preferred. You should have a policy-first orientation (substance over access), demonstrated ability to build functions from zero, deep trusted relationships with senior government and regulatory stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions, and substantive familiarity with the legal industry, judiciary, or regulatory environment around legal services and AI.
