Harvey is seeking a founding Director of Government Affairs & Public Policy to build and lead the company's engagement with governments, regulators, judiciaries, and institutions shaping AI governance in legal and professional services globally.
Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, you will own the overall strategy and engagement framework for Harvey's public policy function, starting from the ground up. Your primary focus is educating and informing policymakers, establishing Harvey as a substantive, trusted voice in conversations about AI governance, the future of the legal profession, and access to justice.
Key responsibilities include: building direct relationships with policymakers, regulators, bar associations, and judicial/legislative bodies across the US, EMEA, and APAC; developing Harvey's policy narrative in partnership with senior leadership and communications; maintaining institutional credibility through candid, well-informed perspectives on the legal profession's future; serving as a strategic bridge between external policy environments and Harvey's product and go-to-market teams; and building and leading a regional team as the function scales.
You will own the policy relationship landscape and be the person in senior meetings, not a coordinator. The role requires developing and cultivating collaborative relationships with policymakers globally, advocating for positions that enable Harvey's product strategy while advancing broader legal profession interests. You'll inform product and market strategy by surfacing emerging compliance requirements, public-sector opportunities, and ethically complex questions at the intersection of AI and legal/governmental contexts.
This is a builder's role where the playbook doesn't exist yet—you'll write it. The scope spans federal, state, and local bodies in the US and internationally, where bar associations, state licensing authorities, and judicial and legislative actions are setting consequential AI policy.
Ideal candidates bring progressive depth in public policy, government affairs, or regulatory work—either in-house at major technology or professional services companies, in senior government roles, or in senior advisory capacities. A J.D. is strongly preferred. You should have a policy-first orientation (not lobbying-first), demonstrated ability to build functions from zero, deep trusted relationships with senior government and regulatory stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions, and substantive familiarity with the legal industry, judiciary, or regulatory environment around legal services and AI.
