Instructure seeks a Director of Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting to lead the organization's most complex accounting matters and financial reporting processes. This role owns technical accounting guidance for non-standard transactions, manages purchase price accounting for M&A activity, and oversees the complete financial reporting lifecycle including audited statements, quarterly debt covenant reporting, and board packages. Key responsibilities include serving as the subject matter expert on technical accounting standards (ASC 805, stock-based compensation), researching and documenting complex transaction conclusions for auditor and board review, managing the equity function with one direct report, and ensuring SOX compliance and strong internal controls. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, Corporate Development, Tax, and external auditors on strategic transactions. The role also includes leading the Maximor ERP implementation to drive automation and process improvements in financial reporting. Required qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's in Accounting, active CPA license or equivalent, 10+ years combined public accounting and industry experience, deep technical accounting expertise with US GAAP knowledge, demonstrated ability to independently research and document complex issues, strong executive presence, SOX compliance experience, and M&A accounting background. Experience with corporate debt accounting, credit agreements, and debt modification analysis is essential. Nice-to-have skills include hedge accounting experience, NetSuite or similar ERP familiarity, equity administration and Shareworks knowledge, and experience with AI platforms like Claude. The role is based in Salt Lake City with flexibility to work remotely and travel on-site once per quarter, or work on-site one day per week if remote.
