HeartFlow is a publicly traded medical technology company (HTFL) pioneering AI-driven cardiac diagnostics for coronary artery disease. The company's flagship product, HeartFlow FFR_CT Analysis, provides non-invasive 3D coronary artery assessment and has been used in over 500,000 patient cases globally across the US, UK, Europe, Japan, and Canada. We are seeking a Director of Engineering to own the technical strategy for platform performance and international expansion. This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining architecture ownership with direct people management of a dedicated offshore engineering team based in Eastern Europe. Key responsibilities include: **Performance Architecture:** Define and execute end-to-end performance strategy for the clinical platform, establishing latency, throughput, and scalability targets; implementing benchmarking and profiling practices; and driving architectural improvements that reduce case processing time and cost per case. **International Architecture:** Architect the platform for multi-region operation, including regional cloud deployment topology, data residency and sovereignty controls, failover and availability design, and abstractions enabling a single codebase to serve multiple markets. **Regulatory & Compliance:** Partner with Regulatory, Quality, Security, and Legal to translate GDPR, in-country data residency mandates, and market-specific clearance requirements (EU, UK, Japan, emerging markets) into concrete architectural requirements and controls. Ensure all engineering practices adhere to FDA regulations, HIPAA, and international data protection standards. **Localization & Regional Fit:** Define architecture for internationalization including language and locale support, units and clinical reporting conventions, and regional integration differences across EHR, PACS, and imaging workflows. **Offshore Team Leadership:** Directly manage and grow the dedicated offshore engineering team, owning work allocation, technical quality, delivery accountability, onboarding, and individual development across time zones. **Distributed Delivery Model:** Establish operating model for effective onshore/offshore collaboration through documentation standards, design review practices, handoff protocols, and communication rhythms. **Cross-Team Standards:** Define, enforce, and evolve architecture patterns, engineering best practices, and tooling standards for performance and multi-region concerns across all engineering teams. **Observability & Risk Management:** Establish instrumentation, telemetry, and SLO framework to understand and defend platform performance in every region. Identify technology risks and expansion dependencies early with clear mitigation plans. **Technical Mentorship & Executive Communication:** Mentor senior and staff engineers across teams; raise architectural standards through design reviews and guidance. Represent platform architecture in cross-functional leadership forums, communicating technical strategy and trade-offs to Product, Strategy, Operations, Commercial, and Regulatory stakeholders.
