Crusoe is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure company that owns and operates the full stack—from energy generation to AI workloads—to power large-scale AI compute. The company is solving the energy bottleneck in AI infrastructure with an energy-first approach.
The Director of Cost Analytics will lead financial analytics and project costing for Crusoe's data center build portfolio, serving as the primary finance partner to Data Center Construction and Development teams. This role establishes the financial and analytical framework to understand project costs, cost drivers, and capital efficiency opportunities across the entire project lifecycle—from early-stage estimates through construction, commissioning, and completion.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing a consistent cost taxonomy and analytical framework across data center builds, including metrics like $/MW, $/kW, cost by construction package, site, geography, design, and project phase. Establish internal and external benchmarks and identify cost variation drivers.
- Owning the financial framework for Estimate at Completion (EAC), partnering with Construction, Development, Procurement, and project controls to track committed, incurred, forecasted, and at-risk spend. Establish disciplined processes for early identification of cost pressure and forecast changes.
- Analyzing cost performance against original underwriting, approved budgets, baseline estimates, prior forecasts, and benchmarks. Distinguish changes driven by scope, quantity, rate, schedule, design, procurement, productivity, contingency utilization, and other factors.
- Developing the financial view of construction economics and capital efficiency, connecting project cost, schedule, MW delivery, and design decisions to help leadership understand tradeoffs between cost, speed, resiliency, capacity, and risk.
- Partnering with estimating, construction, engineering, procurement, and development teams to improve early-stage project estimate quality. Build feedback loops so actual performance continuously improves future estimates and underwriting assumptions.
- Creating portfolio-level visibility across active data center projects with standardized reporting that highlights cost trends, forecast changes, contingency consumption, emerging risks, and opportunities.
- Translating project EACs and construction schedules into reliable capital and cash-spend forecasts that roll into the company's overall capital plan, budget, and long-range plan.
- Providing financial analysis for major design changes, change orders, procurement decisions, contracting strategies, schedule acceleration, and other decisions materially affecting project economics.
- Defining source-of-truth data, ownership, controls, and reporting architecture for project cost analytics. Partner across Finance, project controls, procurement, construction, and systems teams to improve data quality and automate reporting.
This is a strategic role focused on building cost intelligence capability to support better capital deployment decisions, not a traditional project accounting function.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in construction finance, project controls, capital projects accounting, or project finance, ideally within data centers, energy, industrial, or large-scale infrastructure. Direct exposure to data center or facilities operations finance strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing construction budgets, cost reporting, and draw processes on large capital projects (typically $100M+ in scale).
- Familiarity with construction loan agreements, draw/funding mechanics, and lender/independent engineer requirements.
- Working knowledge of GC/EPC contract structures, change order management, and construction risk allocation (bonding, retainage, liquidated damages).
- Experience managing operating budgets and cost performance for live facilities, ideally data centers or other mission-critical operating assets.
- Understanding of how construction-phase decisions (design, equipment selection, contract terms) affect long-term operating costs and asset performance.
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills; comfort building and maintaining detailed cost-tracking tools across both build and operate phases.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects/sites in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills; able to work directly with construction managers, GCs, data center operations teams, lenders, and internal finance/accounting teams.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, construction management, engineering, or related field required; MBA or CPA a plus.
