Metriport is building the infrastructure layer for US healthcare by solving medical data exchange—connecting thousands of legacy systems and transforming raw, unusable data into clean, actionable formats. As a Design Engineer, you will own the full spectrum of design and frontend implementation. Your responsibilities include:
• Build and maintain the design system, establishing a coherent design language (components, spacing, typography, color) that is simple and elegant.
• Lead frontend implementation and set direction on React architecture; review implementation against design intent and write production code where it matters most.
• Talk directly with customers to understand workflows, form opinionated views on solutions, and drive toward them.
• Solve data-dense UI problems by building interfaces that surface complex, high-volume medical data; make hard layout and performance tradeoffs with judgment about when "good enough" is correct.
The role demands someone who can walk the tightrope between craft and speed—shipping fast v0s without cutting corners that create future debt. You'll operate with broad ownership and autonomy, making consequential decisions across design and engineering. The team works in-office six days a week (leaders are present; flexible time off is trusted and never denied).
REQUIREMENTS:
• Design instincts: Produce considered, defensible Figma work with clear opinions on typography, hierarchy, and interaction patterns.
• Frontend fluency: Deep understanding of React—component architecture, rendering behavior, state management—strong enough to lead implementation and run code reviews.
• Pragmatism: Know what to polish and what to ship; balance craft and speed without falling off either side.
• Metriport mindset: Low ego, high ownership; ask "Why can't this be done in 3 days?" instead of accepting 3-week timelines.
