Silicon Data builds data infrastructure for the global compute economy, providing price transparency, benchmarking, and standardized market indices for participants trading compute exposure. The company is backed by leading trading firms including DRW and Jump Trading, and recently partnered with CME Group to launch the first-ever compute futures market.
This Director role owns the derivatives franchise end-to-end, spanning both product development and commercial origination. You will define the specifications that make Silicon Data's indices tradeable—settlement mechanics, averaging and fixing windows, roll conventions, tenor structure, contract sizing, and documentation architecture for bilateral OTC trades (block trades, swaps, forwards, structured hedges). You will design what a compute swap should look like before the market decides.
On the commercial side, you will originate relationships and convert interest into index licenses and executed trades. Your counterparty map includes dealer desks, commodity and macro funds, energy and infrastructure trading houses, neoclouds, hyperscalers, and corporate treasuries of AI-native companies. You will work alongside exchange partners to connect listed and OTC market sides.
Key responsibilities include: contract and product design (settlement methodology, fixing conventions, tenors, roll mechanics, price sources, disruption fallbacks); building the documentation stack (confirmation templates, definitional annexes, index-licensing terms, ISDA architecture); origination across the full counterparty map; running the index licensing program for derivatives and structured-product use; identifying natural longs and shorts to develop two-sided liquidity; partnering with CME Group and clearing partners on listed products and block trade mechanics; bringing market intelligence back to product teams; and representing Silicon Data externally at trading desks and industry conferences.
This is an early, high-ownership role reporting directly to the Founder/CEO and is the first hire dedicated to derivatives. You will operate inside a governance and conflicts framework that protects the independence and integrity of Silicon Data's indices as a benchmark administrator. This is not a proprietary trading seat and carries no P&L book.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years in derivatives (structuring, product development, sales, origination, or index/benchmark commercialization) at a dealer, exchange, index provider, IDB, trading firm, or commodity trading house
- Direct, hands-on experience with OTC products: block trades, swaps, forwards, and the negotiation and documentation surrounding them; must have been in the room when terms were set
- Working fluency with ISDA architecture (Master Agreements, Schedules, CSAs, definitional booklets, confirmations) and practical sense of what counterparty credit, legal, and risk functions will accept
- Genuine understanding of settlement mechanics for index-referenced products: fixing construction, averaging windows, price source failures, manipulation risk design
- Demonstrated origination record: built a counterparty book from standing start and can point to trades and relationships sourced personally
- Comfort in small, fast-moving, early-stage environment with high autonomy and minimal existing scaffolding
- Excellent written communication (term sheets, methodology notes, follow-ups to skeptical traders)
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience launching a new commodity or contract from scratch (first-of-its-kind product)
- Background in nascent or non-standard underlyings (freight, power, weather, carbon, bandwidth, crypto)
- Familiarity with benchmark administration and regulation (IOSCO Principles, EU BMR, UK BMR)
- Knowledge of GPUs, AI infrastructure, and compute ecosystem
- Quantitative training or comfort with pricing, curve construction, methodology
- Existing network across dealer desks, commodity trading houses, IDBs, exchanges, or buy side
- Experience with cleared/uncleared margin regimes, EFRPs, block trade rules
