Payhawk is a global spend management platform serving fast-growing and multinational companies across 32 countries. The company operates electronic money institution licenses in Lithuania (supervised by Bank of Lithuania) and the UK (supervised by FCA), with offices across Europe and North America.
This is a permanent senior role as Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), reporting to the MLRO with delegated authority to make independent judgement calls on financial crime and sanctions risk. You will have real ownership over several key programmes that determine how financial crime risk is managed, and contribute to Board and regulatory reporting.
Key responsibilities include: acting as deputy MLRO with full authority in the MLRO's absence, including decisions on suspicious activity reports and financial intelligence unit reporting; taking escalations on complex ownership structures, beneficial owner identification, politically exposed persons, adverse media, and source of funds assessments; owning the ongoing due diligence periodic review programme and scaling it with portfolio growth; leading readiness for the EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (effective July 2027), including gap analysis and implementation; owning the financial crime, sanctions and fraud assessment gate for new products and services; assessing new banking partners and third parties with ongoing oversight; driving audit and risk remediation to closure; and bringing recurring second-line work in-house including enterprise-wide risk assessment and customer risk methodology.
The regulatory agenda is substantial. You will work closely with the MLRO, Director of Compliance, quality assurance, AML operations and onboarding teams, onboarding engineers, and the Group Chief Compliance Officer. Payhawk emphasizes automation and AI as working tools—you should be comfortable pulling data from connected systems, using AI to extract reliable answers from large document sets, and converting repeated manual tasks into reusable workflows. The company will provide tooling, data access, and mandate to design the function around automation.
