Tools for Humanity (TFH), the company behind World, is seeking a Deputy General Counsel to lead regulatory strategy and litigation for a global identity and blockchain platform. World has verified over 17 million people across 160 countries and operates at significant scale with hardware (Orb), software (World ID), and financial products (World App). In this Director-level role reporting to the General Counsel, you will own the company's global regulatory strategy spanning financial services (banking, money transmission), crypto-assets and blockchain, digital identity, consumer protection, payments, and emerging technology regulation. You'll advise executive leadership on complex regulatory issues, develop strategies for licensing and registration across multiple jurisdictions, and lead significant regulatory inquiries, examinations, and enforcement matters. You'll coordinate across Legal, Policy, Communications, Product, Compliance, and Market Operations to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape. You'll also lead the company's global litigation strategy across commercial, regulatory, employment, privacy, consumer protection, and IP disputes. This includes managing significant litigation, arbitrations, and investigations from strategy through resolution, directing outside counsel, overseeing budgets, and advising leadership on legal, business, and reputational risk. Crisis management is a core responsibility: you'll develop response frameworks and lead the legal response to high-impact matters. You'll serve as the primary legal partner for Trust & Safety on non-privacy matters and partner closely with Product, Market Operations, Commercial, Privacy, Corporate, and Employment teams. You'll also build and mentor a high-performing Regulatory and Litigation legal team, establishing scalable operations including playbooks, response frameworks, matter management, reporting, and knowledge management systems. The role is based in San Francisco and requires in-person presence. TFH is backed by a16z, Khosla Ventures, Bain Capital Crypto, and others, with leadership from OpenAI, Tesla, SpaceX, Apple, Google, Stripe, Meta, Coinbase, and Palantir veterans.
