Aera Technology, a Decision Intelligence Platform pioneer and Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader, is seeking a Deputy Controller to lead and scale the company's accounting and financial operations. The role reports to the Controller and oversees all corporate accounting functions including general ledger, consolidations, financial close, payroll, tax, AP/AR, and treasury, with responsibility for ensuring timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Key responsibilities include owning revenue recognition policy and execution under ASC 606 for subscription and usage-based arrangements, including multi-element contracts and deferred revenue management. You will establish, maintain, and continuously improve internal controls, policies, and procedures while supporting internal and external financial reporting, audits, board materials, regulatory filings, and fundraising due diligence. The role requires partnering with FP&A and Legal to ensure financial alignment and managing multi-entity, multi-state, and international tax compliance as the company scales globally.
You will drive ownership and improvement of financial systems, process automation, and finance AI tooling—including implementing LLM-based billing solutions—to support scalability and efficiency. Additional responsibilities include owning stock-based compensation accounting and cap table reconciliation with Legal and People teams, as well as leading and developing a high-performing accounting team and managing relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners.
Aera Technology is a Series C, VC-funded company founded in 2017 with over 400 employees and a global presence across Mountain View, San Francisco, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Paris, Munich, London, Pune, and Sydney. The position is based in the Mountain View office on a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office weekly).
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Strong technical accounting experience, including meaningful revenue recognition experience within enterprise software, SaaS, consumption-based revenue, and professional services, as well as stock-based compensation
- Proven experience leading accounting in a complex, multinational organization
- Strong background in financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, and audit
- Demonstrated success in driving systems implementation and process improvements
- Big 4 experience and CPA strongly preferred
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
