Quora is seeking a Data Scientist to join its highly empowered data team. The role involves working on the Quora product platform, which serves over 300M monthly unique visitors as a global knowledge-sharing platform. You'll also support Poe, Quora's AI platform providing access to multiple language models.
As a Data Scientist, you'll partner closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to design metrics, conduct randomized controlled experiments, build visualizations, and solve complex analytical problems. You'll work across multiple domains including user growth, content quality, monetization, personalization, and marketplace dynamics. Example projects include modeling long-term growth, improving feed relevance and personalization, analyzing user engagement drivers, optimizing marketplace efficiency, and evaluating monetization initiatives.
Key responsibilities include owning well-scoped problem spaces from framing questions through implementation, designing and evaluating experiments to measure product impact, analyzing data to uncover root causes of metric movements, partnering with stakeholders to inform decisions, and contributing to data tools and methodologies that advance the organization's analytical capabilities.
You'll need 3+ years in analytical or quantitative roles with at least 2 years as a Data Scientist. Required skills include statistical techniques (regression, hypothesis testing, causal inference), proficiency with procedural programming languages (Python, R), ability to work in production codebases, and strong communication skills translating business needs into analytical questions. Preferred experience includes experiment evaluation, recommender systems analysis, large-scale distributed computing tools (Presto/Trino), and familiarity with Quora's product.
