Oscar Health is a technology-driven health insurance company seeking a Data Scientist I to join its Data team. The role focuses on leveraging Oscar's comprehensive datasets—spanning financial claims, clinical medical records, and member product interaction data—to drive insights across healthcare and insurance operations.
In this position, you will contribute to building and maintaining data pipelines, developing and validating analytical models, and supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization. Key responsibilities include constructing reliable data pipelines, assisting with statistical model testing and refinement, performing advanced analytical validation, identifying and resolving data quality issues, and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders including business, engineering, product, and data teams.
This role is well-suited for early-career data scientists with strong technical foundations who are eager to grow their skills on real-world healthcare data problems in a collaborative environment. You will report to a senior data science leader and work on initiatives that improve care coordination, optimize risk management, enhance provider networks, and create superior member experiences.
The position is hybrid, based in Oscar's New York City, Los Angeles, or Tempe office, requiring three days per week in-office with Thursdays as a mandatory in-office day for team meetings and collaboration.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in a technical or quantitative field (or 1+ years of relevant professional experience), 1+ years working with SQL or intermediate Python, and 1+ years building data models and conducting advanced analytics. Bonus qualifications include a master's degree in a technical field, healthcare or health insurance industry experience, and exposure to statistical modeling, machine learning, or large-scale data processing.
