Neko Health is a preventative healthcare company using proprietary sensor technology and clinical care to deliver personalized health insights in a single non-invasive visit. The company operates across multiple European locations with a distributed, remote-first engineering organization of ~160 engineers.
The Data Science Lead will join the Data Science Team to develop physics-based algorithms for novel sensor data streams, particularly in laser speckle and optical imaging. This role bridges hardware, firmware, and clinical science to turn sensor measurements into validated, production-ready algorithms with real clinical impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, verifying, validating, and deploying physics-based algorithms for laser measurement systems that improve member health outcomes
- Collaborating cross-functionally with optical engineers, hardware developers, and clinical researchers to deliver algorithms that integrate into Neko's backend infrastructure and clinic products
- Writing production-quality code and raising technical excellence standards across the algorithm team
- Designing and executing calibration, validation, and noise characterization methodologies to ensure metrological and clinical rigor
- Mentoring and collaborating within a high-performing, multidisciplinary team
Required qualifications:
- MSc or PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years relevant industry experience, or 5+ years post-PhD
- Deep knowledge of physics-based modeling and simulation, translating physical systems (optical, acoustic, electromagnetic) into code from first principles
- Experience with laser-based measurement techniques (laser speckle, doppler, OCT, interferometry, lidar FMCW, spectroscopy)
- Strong software engineering skills and proven experience shipping algorithms to production
- Experience at the hardware-software boundary: sensor characterization, calibration pipelines, measurement validation
- Motivation to apply rigorous measurement science to preventative healthcare
Preferred: clinical/regulated environment experience, med-tech/biophotonics/metrology background, demonstrated mentoring success in mission-driven organizations.
The engineering team uses React, TypeScript, C++, Python, C# with ASP.NET Core, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Active Directory. The role is hybrid with Stockholm headquarters; remote work is flexible for software engineers (typically 1 day/week or 1 day/2 weeks in office). The company meets in-person a couple times yearly.
