Axle Energy is building software infrastructure for the decarbonized energy system. The company controls hundreds of thousands of energy assets—vehicle charging systems, heating systems, and home batteries—optimizing when electricity is consumed to match cheap and green supply. Backed by Energize Capital and Accel, Axle operates at scale in a traditionally legacy industry.
You will join as a full-stack data scientist, owning the complete lifecycle of data work from exploration through production deployment. Key responsibilities include building, optimizing, and deploying machine learning models that operate reliably at scale; developing deep domain expertise in energy markets, grid dynamics, and trading strategies; writing production-quality Python code; and contributing to robust, scalable systems. You'll work beyond notebooks, turning research prototypes into real-world solutions that move gigawatt-hours of electrons.
The role values commercial instinct alongside technical depth. You'll have the opportunity to speak directly with clients, wear multiple hats in a small, flat-structured team, and shape energy market strategy. Preferred experience includes knowledge of electricity systems and power trading, comfort with client interaction, and familiarity with time-series data.
Tech stack: Python, React (frontend), Docker, GCP, and Claude AI tools. The company encourages aggressive exploration of AI to rethink workflows.
Compensation includes base salary (£75k–£200k), meaningful equity, enhanced parental leave, bi-annual team retreats, and hybrid working (2–3 days/week in a dog-friendly Farringdon office). The company operates with deliberate pay equity and a 1:1 median ratio between founder and team compensation.
