Axle Energy is building software infrastructure for the decarbonised energy system. The company controls hundreds of thousands of energy assets—vehicle charging systems, heating systems, and home batteries—optimizing when electricity is consumed to align with cheap and green supply. You'll join a fast-growing team backed by Energize Capital and Accel, operating at scale in a traditionally legacy industry.
As a full-stack data scientist, you will own the complete lifecycle of data work: from exploration and prototyping through production deployment. Key responsibilities include building, optimizing, and deploying machine learning models that operate reliably at scale; developing deep domain expertise in energy markets, grid dynamics, and trading strategies; and writing production-quality Python code that integrates into robust, scalable systems. You'll move beyond notebooks to deliver real-world solutions that move gigawatt-hours of electrons.
The role values commercial instinct—understanding how your models drive business value—and comfort engaging directly with clients. You'll work in a deliberately flat organizational structure with a 1:1 median pay ratio between founders and team members. The tech stack centers on Python, Docker, GCP, and Claude AI tools (the company actively encourages AI-augmented workflows).
Desirable background includes knowledge of electricity systems and power trading, familiarity with time-series data, and comfort in client-facing conversations. The team is small and collaborative, so you'll wear multiple hats.
Compensation ranges from £75k–£200k (base + equity). The company offers enhanced parental leave, bi-annual retreats, and hybrid working with a dog-friendly office near Farringdon (2–3 days/week in-office expected). You'll have direct impact on accelerating the energy transition.
