Owner is an AI-native platform helping local business owners (starting with restaurants) succeed by consolidating tools for websites, online ordering, CRM, POS, and more. The company has generated tens of millions in revenue since 2020, processed over a billion dollars in orders, and helped 20,000+ restaurant owners save nearly $200 million in fees. Owner is a remote-first, global company headquartered in San Francisco with a sales hub in Toronto.
The Data Platform team owns the foundational systems that power analytics, AI, and decision-making across the company: ingestion, transformation, storage, orchestration, reverse ETL, semantic layers, and internal BI infrastructure. Currently, parts of the system were built outside the source of truth (in Hex) and need migration into dbt. This role involves replacing ad-hoc solutions with reproducible, production-grade infrastructure and making it self-service for analysts, engineers, and AI systems.
You will design and build data systems powering analytics, AI, and business intelligence; replace custom scripts with reliable pipelines; own core platforms (Snowflake, dbt, Dagster, ingestion, reverse ETL); improve data reliability and compliance; move the team toward self-service tooling; identify cost and performance optimizations; drive technical decisions and best practices; and provide code reviews and guidance to peers.
The team currently has four engineers and is growing. There is minimal legacy code to work around, and decisions made in the first year will shape how Owner uses data long-term. Depending on interests, you can focus on core pipeline and platform infrastructure or the semantic layer between LLMs and data.

You'll work with the Data Platform team, data analysts, product engineers, and business teams across marketing, sales, ops, and finance who depend on this data daily.
