Wonderschool is a Series B edtech company (backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Goldman Sachs, Long Journey Ventures, and First Round Capital) on a mission to ensure every child has access to quality early education. The company helps child care providers—small business owners—start, operate, and grow their businesses through software, coaching, and support. Wonderschool also partners with state governments to modernize public child care systems, building technology platforms for licensing, subsidy management, and provider data.
You will join as the founding data hire, reporting directly to the CEO. This is a deeply hands-on role where you will write SQL, ship models, load data, and debug pipelines daily. You will own two interconnected problems: building a single, trusted canonical data model of providers, children, and families across BigQuery, HubSpot, Stripe, and product databases; and delivering state-mandated data work for government partners, including Data Hub integration, legacy system migration, and identity resolution.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building the canonical data model for providers, sites, children, and families with one ID, one definition, and one source of truth
- Structuring data so AI agents can read and act on it: entity tables, snapshots, and pre-computed briefings for provider coaching at scale
- Owning data delivery for the state government platform: bi-directional Data Hub sync, historical data migration, staging-to-prod loads, validation, and governance sign-off
- Leading identity resolution and deduplication across legacy state systems
- Defining and documenting business metrics (active provider, churn risk, etc.) and making them self-serve for operations and provider success teams
- Setting the data quality bar: monitoring, alerting, lineage, and handling of sensitive data in line with government agreements
- Using AI agents (Claude Code, Hermes, OpenAI) to automate workflows and help other teams answer data questions
You will use AI agents heavily as a core part of your daily work. The company is intentionally small and hires only when work demands it, preferring to automate rather than expand headcount.
Success means state data loads pass validation without heroics, zero duplicate-provider incidents, any team member can answer "how is this provider doing" in one query, agents deliver accurate personalized coaching validated by the provider success team, and metrics are documented and trusted company-wide.
