VPL modernizes clinical supply chains for health systems and outpatient pharmacies, serving over 700 hospitals with a 97% customer retention rate. We're seeking a hands-on Data Engineer to maintain and evolve our data infrastructure as we transition from Microsoft SQL Server and SSIS to PostgreSQL and Snowflake. You will own the reliability and performance of our enterprise data warehouse and production-critical ETL processes. Day-to-day responsibilities include operating and troubleshooting SSIS packages and scheduled jobs, diagnosing pipeline failures and performance bottlenecks, and developing optimized T-SQL queries and stored procedures. You'll design and maintain data pipelines integrating operational, logistics, customer, carrier, supplier, billing, and financial data across multiple source systems. You'll collaborate with analysts, product managers, engineers, finance, and operations teams to define metrics, business rules, and data-quality expectations. Key responsibilities include reconciling data across systems, implementing controls and alerts to catch data quality issues before they impact customers or billing, and improving pipeline reliability through logging, monitoring, error handling, and documentation. You'll also help evaluate which SSIS workloads should migrate to modern ELT patterns and participate in data migration and validation activities. Using SQL, Python, statistics, and visualization, you'll profile data, test assumptions, and support business decision-making. You'll maintain data lineage, technical documentation, runbooks, and recovery procedures for critical datasets. After onboarding, you'll participate in after-hours support for production-critical data processes. The role requires strong security, privacy, governance, and compliance awareness. We value strong SQL and data engineering fundamentals with analytical problem-solving ability. Extensive Snowflake experience is not required; we're looking for someone eager to grow into modern cloud data platforms and ELT practices.
