Trustpilot is a profitable, high-growth FTSE-250 company operating the world's largest open customer review platform. The company is seeking a Data Analyst to join its global Fraud & Investigations team, part of the broader Trust & Transparency division.
In this role, you will analyze data to identify fraud patterns and develop detection rules that protect consumers, businesses, and platform integrity. You'll tackle complex, ambiguous challenges in online trust and fraud prevention.
Key responsibilities include:
- Hunting for novel fraud on the platform by forming and testing hypotheses about bad actor behavior using data analysis
- Designing detection logic from scratch, including features, criteria, and thresholds that distinguish fraudulent from legitimate reviews
- Engineering production-grade detection rules in SQL with careful attention to logical soundness and adaptability as fraud tactics evolve
- Balancing precision and coverage by obsessing over false positives and building safeguards to protect legitimate users and businesses
- Investigating escalated cases of platform misuse and assisting with media, legal, and customer inquiries
- Partnering with data scientists to refine detection approaches and collaborating with engineering to improve tools and data infrastructure
- Analyzing reviewer and business behavior to support other teams, communicating findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Reporting to the Manager of Fraud Analytics
You should think like an adversary, instinctively questioning how systems could be gamed. You're creative with data—able to take messy, ambiguous datasets and invent novel ways to expose hidden patterns. You build complex SQL logic that becomes standing detection rules, not one-off queries. You understand the tradeoff between catching fraud and avoiding false positives, treating the latter as a serious cost. You can hold fuzzy, open-ended problems, break them into testable pieces, and persist through ambiguity.
Required: experience in data analytics or similar analytical field, through formal education (Science, Maths, Computer Science, or equivalent) or hands-on experience. Prior fraud or abuse detection experience is welcome but not required; the company values how you think over your domain background.
