OpenAI is building a next-generation internal audit function from the ground up, and this role leads the cybersecurity and technology audit practice. You will shape the strategy, methodology, and culture of this new capability while conducting complex audits and advisory reviews of cybersecurity, technology, data, and AI-related risks. As Cybersecurity & Technology Audit Leader, you combine deep technical expertise with strong business judgment. You move fluidly between executive-level governance questions and detailed technical analysis, using data to identify and assess risk while forming clear conclusions in fast-moving situations. Key responsibilities include: building and executing a risk-based audit strategy across cybersecurity, infrastructure, cloud environments, data, software development, and AI governance; driving oversight of critical technology programs and emerging AI risks including model governance, data provenance, privacy, and responsible AI; assessing complex technical environments and control effectiveness across architecture, access models, cloud controls, and security monitoring; translating technical findings into clear business implications and practical recommendations; building advanced audit capabilities using data analytics, automation, and AI for improved risk assessment and continuous monitoring; establishing trusted relationships across the organization and supporting reporting to executives, regulators, and the Board; monitoring technology developments and regulatory changes; and coaching colleagues to build a culture of high standards and continuous learning. You bring 12-15+ years of experience in cybersecurity, technology audit, technology risk, security engineering, data risk, or cloud security. You have strong technical expertise across cloud platforms, identity and access management, application security, infrastructure, networks, vulnerability management, incident response, security operations, data platforms, or software development. You understand data architecture, governance, and the risks of using data in AI systems. You have knowledge of AI and machine-learning risks, with experience in data analytics, scripting, automation, or AI-assisted techniques. You can understand complex systems, ask incisive questions, evaluate incomplete information, and reach well-supported conclusions. You communicate effectively with executives and technology leaders, operate comfortably in fast-paced evolving environments, and have a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information systems, engineering, data science, accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience). Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CISM, CRISC, CCSP, or cloud/AI credentials are valued. This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco with 3 days in office per week.
