Nivoda is a rapidly scaling B2B diamond and gemstone marketplace connecting jewellery retailers with suppliers globally, processing $300M+ in annual transactions. The company is transforming a historically slow and opaque $350B industry by providing equal access to inventory, financing, and logistics for businesses of all sizes. As Nivoda expands into jewellery and new markets, customs and trade compliance complexity has grown significantly. This new individual contributor role sits within the fulfilment function, owning the execution layer of trade compliance—preparing documentation, applying tariff classifications, managing broker relationships, and running the duty drawback program end-to-end. Legal & Compliance own the policy framework; this role executes it day-to-day, escalating genuinely complex questions upward. Key responsibilities include: - Prepare shipment documentation and commercial invoices; retrieve and centrally store complete documentation from brokers and carriers - Apply HTS classifications and country-of-origin determinations approved by Legal & Compliance consistently across shipment processes and systems - Manage customs broker relationships day-to-day, coordinate clearance, review performance, and ensure alignment with classification frameworks - Monitor duties as part of landed costs, catch unexpected outcomes, and file claims when errors occur - Resolve routine customs queries during clearance and ensure accurate import/export declarations - Own the duty drawback program end-to-end, serving as internal point of contact with Livingstone and preparing/validating claims - Monitor US import bond compliance to ensure business continuity for the largest shipping lane - Partner with manufacturers (starting with India) to ensure export documentation and processes support compliant, duty-efficient shipping - Identify and act on duty-saving opportunities through relevant free trade agreements (India–UK, EU–UK, EU–India, UAE–India) - Build trade compliance processes as the jewellery business scales into new duty-liable markets The role offers high autonomy and real ownership; there is no existing capability like this at Nivoda, so you'll establish the operating rhythm as you go. You'll work closely with Legal & Compliance, Fulfilment, Operations, and external brokers, carriers, and manufacturers. Requirements: - Proven experience in global trade compliance or customs operations, with specific track record on US, UK, and EU import/export - Extensive US import-export experience (required) - Direct experience managing customs broker relationships and shipment documentation at volume - Experience filing duty drawback or tariff reclaim claims - Comfortable working as an individual contributor with real autonomy - Detail-oriented and process-minded; ability to establish processes rather than follow existing playbooks - Based in the EU or UK with flexibility to work across time zones as the company scales globally - Strong stakeholder management skills coordinating external brokers, carriers, manufacturers, and internal teams - Commercial mindset connecting compliance work to cost savings and business impact Nice-to-have: - Experience with free trade agreements and preferential duty schemes - Experience in jewellery, diamonds, gemstones, or luxury goods logistics - Experience with Indian export processes - Background in fast-scaling, international e-commerce or marketplace businesses
