Salary: GBP 110,400 - 110,400 / annual
Coinbase is seeking a Counsel, Commercial to join its Institutional Legal team, providing hands-on legal support for institutional products across UK and international markets. The role covers prime brokerage, exchange, trading, custody, derivatives, and financing products serving banks, brokers, hedge funds, market makers, and professional trading clients.
Key responsibilities include negotiating highly tailored agreements with strategic partners and sophisticated counterparties in finance, payments, and digital assets; owning the full product life-cycle negotiation for institutional offerings while advising on legal issues, risks, and complex agreement structures; leading cross-functional efforts across Institutional Sales, Business Development, Product/Engineering, Finance/Tax, and Compliance to drive alignment and close deals; and building scalable commercial processes and risk frameworks to support aggressive global growth.
Required qualifications: Qualified solicitor or barrister (England & Wales) or licensed attorney with 5+ years at a financial services institution (bank, e-money issuer, broker-dealer, asset manager) or law firm advising such clients. Proven track record negotiating and drafting institutional financial agreements including prime brokerage, securities financing, and derivatives documentation (ISDA, GMSLA, futures agreements). Experience providing full life-cycle negotiation for trading, custody, or financing products with ability to advise on legal risk and commercial structuring. Familiarity with UK and/or EU regulatory regimes for financial instruments and ability to navigate cross-border legal considerations. Experience leading legal workstreams across globally distributed, cross-functional teams. Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency.
