Philo is a venture-backed streaming TV platform (vMVPD) offering 70+ live channels, unlimited DVR, and premium add-ons. The company is backed by NEA and Mark Cuban Companies, with strategic investors including Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount, and AMC.
You will join a small, high-impact legal team reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, working alongside two senior lawyers. Your primary focus is supporting content acquisition and business development teams on the deals that define Philo's content offerings and growth strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Negotiating and drafting content license agreements, platform deals, production agreements, vendor MSAs/SOWs, and insertion orders
- Actively participating in deal negotiations and closing transactions (not reviewing or supervising)
- Handling IP clearances, releases, takedowns, and technology/SaaS agreements as needed
- Building legal playbooks, developing templates, and establishing best practices to improve team efficiency
- Providing practical, business-savvy legal advice that balances legal correctness with business utility
You will have real scope and autonomy from day one, working in the Brooklyn office alongside senior lawyers and executive leadership (CEO, CFO). This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives at the intersection of law and deal-making, with genuine enthusiasm for media and entertainment.
Required qualifications: 5–10 years of legal experience with hands-on television licensing expertise (network affiliation, FAST); J.D. from ABA-accredited law school; active New York Bar membership. Platform deal experience is a plus. You should be pragmatic, low-ego, high-output, and genuinely passionate about the media industry.
