fomo is a trading app for retail users, enabling simple discovery of assets, following top traders, self-custody, and cross-chain trading without traditional crypto complexity. The company has over one million users and is backed by Index Ventures, USV, and Benchmark Capital.
This is a foundational Controller role reporting to the VP of Finance, responsible for building fomo's accounting function from the ground up. The successful candidate will set strategy, create systems, and execute hands-on accounting work while supporting strategic decision-making, risk management, and capital planning.
Key responsibilities include: building the complete accounting function (month-end close, operating model, policies, controls, systems); owning monthly, quarterly, and annual closes with accurate, timely financial reporting; overseeing general ledger and core accounting operations (AP, AR, cash, payroll, fixed assets, expenses); developing accounting treatment and controls for digital-asset activity including wallets, on-chain transactions, and treasury movements; leading selection and implementation of accounting tools (ERP, crypto subledger, expense management, procurement, payroll); establishing financial controls and approval frameworks; managing relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and valuation firms; coordinating tax compliance; and collaborating across Legal, Operations, Product, Engineering, and People on new initiatives.
Required qualifications: 10+ years progressive accounting experience with meaningful ownership of close, reporting, controls, and operations; CPA or equivalent international certification (Big 4 or equivalent foundation strongly preferred); demonstrated success implementing and managing accounting tools; experience in high-growth startups, fintech, web3, trading, or payments; strong U.S. GAAP and technical accounting knowledge; experience building accounting processes from early stage; hands-on, low-ego approach; high integrity and attention to detail.
