Coinbase is seeking a Compliance, Threat & Risk Assessment Manager to lead enterprise-wide compliance risk management and financial crime prevention initiatives. This role sits at the intersection of compliance, governance, data, and cross-functional execution, translating complex regulatory and financial crime risks into actionable insights for senior leadership across Coinbase's global legal entities.
Key responsibilities include managing large-scale compliance risk assessments (inherent risk identification, control evaluation, residual risk determination), partnering with Money Laundering Reporting Officers (MLROs), Chief Compliance Officers (CCOs), and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver globally coordinated, locally relevant outcomes. You will produce risk assessment reports, executive summaries, and governance materials for senior leadership and regulatory audiences.
Additional duties involve driving transaction monitoring and customer risk scoring coverage assessments, leading geographic risk rating updates to ensure they remain current and operationally actionable, and developing a comprehensive compliance threat assessment framework including governance, methodology, and documentation standards.
A key differentiator is pioneering AI-powered automation to scale assessment workflows while maintaining rigorous human judgment and oversight. The role requires deep expertise in AML/CFT, sanctions, transaction monitoring, customer risk scoring, and compliance risk management frameworks across multi-jurisdictional environments.
Required qualifications: 8+ years in compliance, financial crimes, or operational risk assessment within regulated financial institutions, fintech, or consulting; demonstrated success independently leading large-scale risk assessments and influencing senior stakeholders in ambiguous environments; proficiency in Excel, SQL, and AI platforms; and a crypto-forward mindset with understanding of crypto products and ecosystem risks. The ideal candidate utilizes generative AI responsibly while maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
