Napo is building pet insurance with a customer-first approach, and this Compliance Manager role is central to that mission. You'll own the day-to-day compliance function in a two-person team, reporting to the Head of Risk & Compliance and working closely with Marketing, Customer Operations, and Product. This is a genuine autonomy role where you'll build frameworks, make decisions, and shape how Napo stays compliant as it scales.
Key Responsibilities:
- Run day-to-day compliance operations: provide clear, timely advice on business compliance questions; review and approve financial promotions and customer communications against FCA and Consumer Duty requirements; manage product governance processes.
- Deliver the compliance monitoring plan, tracking actions to closure and keeping policies, training, and SMCR processes current and effective.
- Support Data Protection Officer (DPO) responsibilities.
- Develop and embed the risk-management framework as Napo scales; enhance third-party oversight and onboarding; strengthen governance with clear ownership, decision-making, and escalation paths.
- Identify themes in compliance data and drive action.
You'll be expected to own outcomes with autonomy, give pragmatic (not permissive) advice that balances risk and speed, remain calm and decisive under pressure, challenge conduct risk across teams with clarity and diplomacy, and work collaboratively as a trusted business partner.
The role is hybrid (two days per week in central London office) with stock options on day one, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays plus birthday off, BUPA health insurance, unlimited GP video consultations, pension scheme, and Napo pet insurance.
Requirements:
- 5+ years' hands-on compliance experience in UK general insurance or insurtech, ideally within an intermediary or broker.
- Strong ability to translate complex regulation into clear, pragmatic advice that teams can act on.
- Experience designing and building oversight systems—monitoring, controls, frameworks from scratch.
- Practical experience applying Consumer Duty and PROD requirements.
- Ability to make sound judgements at pace, managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
- Track record as a compliance generalist in a small or scaling business, working with personal ownership and autonomy.
- Ideally some experience with data-protection regulation.
