Anthropic is seeking a Community Engagement Manager to serve as the on-the-ground presence in Canadian communities where the company operates data centres. This is a relationship-focused role bridging Anthropic's Policy and Infrastructure teams with local governments, community organizations, economic development partners, and residents.
The role spans the full lifecycle of data centre development—from site selection through construction and long-term operations. You will build and maintain trusted relationships with municipal elected officials, provincial agencies, economic development organizations, community groups, civic leaders, educational institutions, and workforce partners. You will develop and execute community engagement strategies for each market, build external coalitions, host education and listening sessions, and design local solutions that deliver real benefits.
Key responsibilities include representing Anthropic in public forums, town halls, planning hearings, and community events; monitoring community sentiment and local political dynamics to advise internal teams on risks and opportunities; partnering with Real Estate and Infrastructure teams to integrate community input into project planning; coordinating charitable giving and community investment commitments; and building repeatable engagement processes that scale as Anthropic's infrastructure footprint grows.
You will travel regularly within your region (up to 50% of the time) and occasionally to other Anthropic data centre markets. This role requires independent judgment, the ability to manage multiple concurrent engagements, and strong written and verbal communication skills to translate complex operational plans into plain language for local officials and media.
Minimum qualifications include experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, or municipal/provincial government; direct experience engaging with municipal councils and provincial government on large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects; demonstrated relationship and coalition-building skills; ability to represent a company credibly in public settings; and strong communication skills. Preferred: 7+ years in community engagement on data centre, utility, energy, or large infrastructure projects.
