This is a relationship-focused role bridging Anthropic's Policy and Infrastructure teams with local officials, community organizations, economic development partners, and residents. The role is not primarily communications or government affairs, but rather centers on building trust and being a valued neighbor from site selection through construction and long-term operations. You will surface community concerns before they escalate, translate technical and operational plans into clear local benefits, and build coalitions that enable responsible, rapid expansion. Key responsibilities include: - Building and maintaining trusted relationships with parish presidents and councils, mayors, municipal officials, planning and zoning bodies, port and levee districts, state economic development agencies, community groups, civic leaders, educational institutions, and workforce partners - Developing and executing community engagement strategies for each market across site selection, pre-development, construction, and operations phases - Building external coalitions, hosting education and listening sessions, and designing local solutions that deliver real community benefits - Representing Anthropic in public forums, town halls, planning hearings, community events, and local media - Monitoring community sentiment and local political dynamics, advising internal teams on risks, opportunities, and appropriate engagement pace - Partnering with Real Estate and Infrastructure teams to integrate community input into project planning and delivery - Coordinating with Communications on locally relevant messaging - Managing charitable giving, community investment, and economic development commitments, including nonprofit partnerships - Explaining environmental stewardship approaches to power, water, land use, flood risk, storm resilience, and utility coordination - Building scalable community engagement playbooks and processes as Anthropic's infrastructure footprint grows You will travel regularly within Louisiana (up to 50% of the time) and occasionally to other Anthropic data center markets. Minimum Qualifications: - Experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, local or state government, or closely related field - Direct experience working for or engaging with parish and municipal governments and diverse community stakeholders on large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects, with working understanding of local politics and community dynamics - Skilled relationship and coalition builder who earns trust with diverse stakeholders and maintains relationships through difficult conversations - Ability to represent a company credibly in public settings including town halls, hearings, and press interviews - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to translate complex operational plans into plain language for local officials and reporters - Ability to work independently, get up to speed quickly on complex policy issues, and manage multiple concurrent engagements across different markets - Based in Louisiana or willing to relocate there, prepared to travel regularly across the state - Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Preferred Qualifications: - 7+ years of experience in community engagement specifically on data center, utility, energy, or large-scale industrial infrastructure projects, or in local government - Familiarity with land use, zoning, and permitting processes at parish and municipal level, including local review of industrial tax incentives - Experience in communities with long industrial, energy, or port presence, and understanding of coastal, flood, and hurricane resilience concerns - Experience managing corporate social responsibility programs - Established relationships with economic development, workforce, or civic organizations in relevant markets - Experience working with real estate, legal, communications, and policy teams simultaneously - Experience engaging with Tribal nations in Louisiana, including familiarity with consultation processes and Tribal sovereignty - Genuine interest in the communities where you work, not just the projects you manage
