ElevenLabs, an AI research and product company valued at $11B, is seeking an experienced Commercial Counsel to lead and manage the US commercial legal team. The role focuses on supporting complex commercial transactions across North America, including SaaS agreements, licensing deals, and strategic partnerships while navigating the rapidly evolving AI regulatory landscape.
Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements with emphasis on go-to-market and enterprise customer contracts. You will partner closely with sales, business development, and operations teams to design strategies supporting high-growth initiatives. The role requires monitoring and interpreting evolving legal and regulatory developments in data protection, technology, and AI frameworks, applying this knowledge to contract drafting and risk assessment.
You will manage a lean team of US lawyers and contract managers across multiple time zones and verticals, developing and localizing contract templates, playbooks, and policies to reflect regional requirements and industry best practices. This is a business-oriented position requiring clear, pragmatic legal advice to cross-functional teams that enables responsible growth and innovation.
The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of post-qualification legal experience, with in-house technology or SaaS background strongly preferred. You must have a J.D. and active bar membership in at least one US state (NY or CA preferred), with proven experience managing a team. Strong expertise in enterprise software licensing, SaaS, data protection, and intellectual property is essential. Experience advising on privacy, cybersecurity, and cross-border data transfer issues is required. You should be comfortable working independently in fast-paced, high-growth environments with shifting priorities, while collaborating effectively with global colleagues. The role is remote but has a preference for candidates in New York or San Francisco where the company maintains significant presence.
