Monarch Money is seeking a Commercial Counsel to serve as the legal partner driving complex commercial deals and strategic growth initiatives. This is a senior individual contributor role reporting to leadership, responsible for understanding Monarch's business model, key relationships, product strategy, and regulatory landscape.
Key responsibilities include: negotiating commercial agreements with enterprise partners and startups; translating complex legal concepts into clear business language for cross-functional teams; ensuring compliance with financial services regulations (GLBA, state privacy laws, and other applicable frameworks); managing contract lifecycle and documentation; and providing proactive legal guidance on product development, marketing, and scaling initiatives.
You will be the bridge between legal requirements and business objectives, helping the company grow responsibly while maintaining strong relationships with external partners. The role requires deep involvement in deal structuring, risk assessment, and strategic decision-making across the organization.
Monarch is a fully remote, venture-backed personal finance platform founded in 2021 that has become the top-recommended personal finance app by users and experts. The company operates synchronously 9 AM–2 PM PT with asynchronous collaboration across time zones.
