Braintrust is seeking its first in-house legal counsel to build and scale the legal function as the company grows its sales and customer base. The role is critical to supporting enterprise deals, ensuring regulatory compliance, and establishing scalable legal processes.
You will negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including SaaS and on-premises agreements, master service agreements, NDAs, vendor agreements, consulting agreements, data processing agreements, and partnership agreements. You'll lead legal support for complex, high-value enterprise sales transactions and work closely with the sales team to close deals while building strong relationships with customer legal teams.
Key responsibilities include developing contract playbooks and template agreements to streamline processes for the sales team, implementing tools and systems to increase visibility and maintain deal velocity, and supporting governance, risk, and compliance programs. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, HR, Product, and Engineering to ensure legal alignment across the business, provide strategic guidance on commercial legal matters and emerging regulations, and support leadership with corporate governance and fundraising as needed.
The ideal candidate has a JD from an accredited law school, is admitted to the California bar and in good standing (or otherwise authorized to practice law), and brings 6+ years of relevant legal experience including at least 2 years in-house at a high-growth SaaS company. You should have extensive experience with enterprise software agreements and technology transactions, with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives while keeping deals moving. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels are essential. Experience with AI, developer platforms, or cloud infrastructure is a plus, as is familiarity with legal considerations around AI-assisted development and enterprise adoption.
