Salary: USD 67,000 - 95,000 / annual
Tempus is building AI-powered infrastructure to modernize cancer treatment by connecting real-world evidence and delivering actionable clinical insights. The RWD Clinical Informatics and Terminology team seeks a detail-oriented Clinical Terminologist to operationalize and quality-assure the adoption of standard clinical terminologies across Tempus data pipelines.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage and update terminology services company-wide, maintain and extend modeled ontology solutions, and standardize clinical concepts from diverse sources including EHR integrations, lab systems, and curated datasets. Key responsibilities include managing adjudication and QC pipelines for new clinical concepts and domains, proactively monitoring quality assurance initiatives, and recommending improvements to production processes.
Required qualifications: 3+ years working with standard medical terminologies (ICD-9/10, SNOMED CT, RxNorm, LOINC, CPT); working knowledge of UMLS and NCIm; experience developing and maintaining clinical ontologic models; exposure to real-world data from EHRs, lab systems, claims, and abstraction sources; familiarity with ELT tools for high-volume data pipelines; and foundational knowledge of SQL, Python, and Semantic Web Technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL). Healthcare information standards awareness (HL7, FHIR) is expected.
Nice-to-haves include clinical background (PA, NP, RN), real-world data analysis experience in Python or SQL, participation in professional organizations (OHDSI, AMIA), and familiarity with OMOP Common Data Model. This role offers competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits including equity.
