Brodie League is a fast-growing adult recreational basketball league operating across 20+ locations with 50,000 athletes. As a City Launcher, you will open and operate a new Brodie market in Chicago, building it from zero into a thriving community.
This role blends community building, sales, and growth marketing in equal measure. You will recruit a minimum of 24 founding captains in your first season, identify and negotiate a venue, fill the gym, and run the launch season. Critically, you stay in the market long-term as the face of Brodie in your city—present at every game night, open run, and community event, building genuine relationships with captains, players, families, and spectators.
Core responsibilities include:
**Community & Network Building**: Recruit founding captains from your existing network and local basketball ecosystem (open runs, rec leagues, tournaments, training sessions). Build relationships with key influencers—coaches, trainers, gym staff, run organizers, barbers, group-chat admins, and local business owners. Drive referral programs so captains and players become your largest recruiting channel. Maintain visible, weekly presence in your neighbourhood as part of your normal life, not as outreach.
**Venue & Sales**: Identify and evaluate gyms in your neighbourhood. Negotiate and lock in the right venue by proving demand before signing. Own the pipeline in CRM (teams signed, fill rate, revenue) and track weekly progress to ensure forecastability. Escalate early when behind target.
**Growth & Marketing**: Own the local demand story from launch—building social following, anticipation, and waitlist before opening night. Run the location's social media in the lead-up. Host open runs and live events that convert curiosity into signed teams. Leverage local distribution (trainers, shops, barbershops, run pages, photographers) through mutually beneficial partnerships.
**Season & Territory Ownership**: Attend game nights and build community. Monitor league health (retention, team count, waitlist, feedback) and partner with Operations on execution while retaining growth and revenue ownership. Help build the repeatable launch playbook for future Brodie cities, then expand into adjacent cities as your track record earns them.
You will report to the Sr. Director of Growth and work closely with leadership across operations, growth, brand, and people.
**Requirements**
- You live in the Chicago neighbourhood (or directly adjacent) where we are launching—not just the metro area.
- Existing network in the local basketball community: coaches, trainers, gym staff, run organizers, tournament organizers, group-chat admins.
- Currently active in the game: playing in a rec league now or last season, in a gym weekly. You are a participant in the culture, not a fan.
- Standing in your scene: when you recommend something, people move. This is reputation-based, not follower-count-based.
- Ability to name your first ten captains by name and credibility to get them on the phone.
- Comfort building demand from zero (events, social, partnerships, word of mouth) with minimal budget.
- Closing ability: can ask a facility owner for a time slot and a captain for a deposit without hesitation, and manage conversations from first touch through signature.
- Comfort owning a number, working in CRM, and adopting new tools quickly. Strong tech acumen or curiosity expected.
- Availability on evenings and weekends (game nights run roughly 7pm–midnight).
- Willingness to travel across your territory as it expands.
**Nice to Have**
- Experience running a run, league, tournament, training group, or community program.
- Experience running social media for a local brand, venue, team, or community.
- Background in sports, events, hospitality, fitness, lifestyle, or entertainment.
- Experience selling partnerships, sponsorships, memberships, or experiential products.
- 3+ years in sales, partnerships, community management, or growth (useful but not a filter—network and credibility matter more than title history).
