Cardless is building infrastructure that enables world-class companies (like Coinbase and Bilt) to design, build, and launch their own branded financial products. The company handles lending, compliance, and operations behind the scenes while partners control the customer experience. Cardless raised $60M Series C in September 2025 (total funding $170M) and is scaling toward profitability by end of 2026. As Chief of Staff to the founder and president, you will serve as a force multiplier on the company's hardest, most complex, most interdisciplinary problems. The role is structured to progress through phases: initial shadowing to build deep business context (attending exec meetings, customer visits, product workshops); solving your first problem across any part of the business (operational processes, product features, new business lines); and progressively taking on harder, higher-impact problems as you become formidable. This is an individual contributor role focused on problem-solving and learning founder leadership skills, not managing large teams. The company plans to hire multiple Chiefs of Staff over time. The work is intense—long hours, often weekends (Sundays included), with an expectation of continuous learning and growth through unfamiliar challenges. Cardless values craftsmanship, curiosity, and impact. You'll work in a collaborative, fast-moving environment in their Jackson Square office in San Francisco, in-office 5 days per week. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of experience doing hard things (consulting, banking, engineering, product, operating, founding, or equivalent) - Intellectual vitality and endless curiosity about building great businesses and the intersection of finance and technology - Extremely driven, motivated to build an amazing company and career - Analytical and comfortable with data, but also capable of intuitive thinking - Strong writing skills used as a tool to think precisely and clarify complex problems - Technical mindset (way of thinking, not just accumulated knowledge) - Default to moving quickly, taking ownership, and feeling compelled to fix problems - Humility and ability to learn continuously in uncomfortable situations
