Chime, a fintech company empowering financial progress for millions of Americans, is seeking a Chief of Staff and Head of Legal Operations to join its growing Legal team. This dual-mandate role sits at the intersection of executive strategy and legal department operations, driving organizational effectiveness at the highest level while building and running the operational backbone of the legal function. You will serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to legal leadership, ensuring alignment across strategic priorities and driving cross-functional initiatives from planning through execution. Key responsibilities include managing the cadence of meetings, offsites, and strategic planning processes; preparing materials for team and leadership meetings; and developing KPIs and metrics to measure legal department performance. Operationally, you will design, implement, and continuously improve legal department processes, workflows, and systems including matter management, contract lifecycle management, and e-billing platforms. You will own the legal department's budget—forecasting, spend tracking, and managing outside counsel fees—and maintain relationships with external counsel and legal vendors, including rate negotiation and performance evaluation. A critical component of this role involves managing the law enforcement and government response team, overseeing intake, triage, and response to subpoenas, warrants, and other government or law enforcement requests. You will also support legal team hiring, onboarding, and resource planning, and partner with legal, compliance, and security teams to escalate complex or sensitive requests. The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience in chief of staff, legal operations, management consulting, or law firm/in-house legal roles. You should have strong financial acumen, including budget management and vendor negotiation experience; familiarity with legal technology platforms (CLM, e-billing, matter management systems); and preferably, experience managing law enforcement or government request response processes. Exceptional communication skills, high discretion, sound judgment with sensitive information, and the ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments are essential.
