Cape is America's privacy-first mobile carrier founded in 2022, having just closed a Series C in March 2026. The company has built its own cellular network from the ground up to deliver privacy and security features unavailable from legacy carriers, serving consumers, businesses, and government agencies.
As Chief Information Security Officer, you will be Cape's chief protector and strategic security leader, reporting directly to founder and CEO John Doyle. This is a build-and-defend role focused on enabling rapid product innovation while maintaining the company's commitment to being the most secure commercial mobile network globally.
You will own end-to-end security strategy spanning network infrastructure, product/application security, cloud and corporate IT, and physical/personnel security. Key responsibilities include building and leading a security team capable of defending carrier-grade infrastructure against sophisticated adversaries including nation-state actors; designing security architecture and controls for the cellular network from radio access through core infrastructure and subscriber systems; embedding security into the product development lifecycle in partnership with Engineering leadership; conducting threat modeling, penetration testing, red-teaming, and incident response programs; communicating security policy and risk to the board and executive team; managing external security vendors, auditors, and researchers; and championing a security-first culture company-wide.
Required qualifications: 10+ years in information security with at least 5 years in senior security leadership (CISO, VP Security, Head of Security) at a company with meaningful infrastructure or regulatory complexity; experience managing geographically dispersed engineering teams; proven track record building security teams and programs from early stage; deep technical credibility to engage with engineers on architecture and risk while communicating effectively to executives and board; genuine commitment to privacy and security as inseparable principles; and excellent judgment under ambiguity with ability to move fast without compromising on critical corners.
Bonus experience includes direct telecom, network infrastructure, or critical infrastructure security background (SS7, radio networks, carrier systems); or securing comparably complex environments like cloud infrastructure providers or fintech platforms. Experience securing environments with Forward Deployed Engineers and high-risk travel complexity is also valued.
Compensation: $300,000–$350,000 annually (geo-adjusted, NYC/DC range) plus meaningful equity. Benefits include 401(k) match, 100% medical/dental/vision coverage for employee and dependents, 12 weeks paid parental leave, stipends for family-forming and gender-affirming care, unlimited PTO, and relocation assistance.
