Anduril Industries is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the Tactical Recon & Strike division, responsible for developing advanced aerial small drones (Group 1-3) and all associated equipment for testing, deployment, and operation. This role is pivotal in taking products like Ghost, Anvil, Bolt, and Altius from concept to operational systems deployed with military customers.
You will drive technical direction and ensure robust product design across the full lifecycle—from initial vision and design through fabrication, testing, and production. Key responsibilities include leading technical execution, developing systems that support expeditionary operations and intuitive warfighter use, setting up design trades with technical subject-matter experts, and operating at the intersection of software and hardware to craft system-level architecture.
You will define product milestones, lead technical design reviews, guide cross-functional product decisions, and manage engineering risk. You'll coordinate prototype fabrication and low-rate production, oversee subsystem and system-level testing, work with senior leadership on resource planning, support remote troubleshooting of deployed systems, conduct hands-on field testing, and create verification and validation plans for end-to-end systems.
Required: 15+ years in senior roles leading system design and development from concept through customer delivery. You need a technical bachelor's degree (Robotics, Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering, or equivalent) and hands-on experience building complex robotic systems. Essential expertise includes aerodynamics, IMUs, control actuation servos, data analysis, rapid prototyping, mechatronic design, firmware/software system design, sensor physics, and tracking/calibration. You must be able to engage technically with mechanical, electrical, firmware, sensors, and robotics software leads, lead cross-functional teams through design trades, and demonstrate high ownership and mission-oriented mentality.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance. Relocation benefits provided. Travel required for test planning and execution. Real-world operational experience with small UAS systems in military context is desired.
