Valar Atomics is building scalable, clean nuclear power systems with a focus on advanced fuel fabrication and high-temperature industrial applications. The company is establishing a pilot manufacturing facility in Orangeville, Utah to demonstrate next-generation nuclear technology and fuel production. As a Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) Engineer, you will own the technical performance and operations of state-of-the-art CVD and fluidized bed coating equipment on the TRISO fuel manufacturing pilot line. This is a hands-on role where you'll take radical ownership of system performance, working directly with cross-functional teams to install, troubleshoot, and optimize uranium processing equipment as it transitions from pilot to production scale. Key responsibilities include: - Taking full ownership of fluidized bed and CVD coater systems, ensuring alignment between performance targets, manufacturability, and cost - Refining and validating operating, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures as the process scales - Building on completed HAZOPs and safety analyses to improve operational robustness and production readiness - Interpreting engineering analyses and translating them into measurable improvements in process capability, reliability, and throughput - Developing detailed understanding and modeling of equipment operations to optimize output and meet stringent specifications - Driving yield and throughput improvements through systematic process optimization - Leading root-cause investigations and corrective action plans for equipment failures, coating defects, fluidization issues, and deposition variability - Managing QC lab analysis, data retention, and reporting to support development goals and improvement planning - Collaborating with vendors on cost, timelines, manufacturing process selection, and quality control - Contributing to internal best practices for safety, documentation, and personnel management You should demonstrate strong analytical skills, extreme ownership and attention to detail, and the ability to mentor while continuously learning. The role requires direct CVD experience, a bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, and proven track record in materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems.
