Help Scout is a customer support platform used by 10,000+ companies to manage customer relationships. Founded in 2011, the company is now building a sales-led outbound motion to expand its mid-market customer base, which currently relies primarily on inbound pipeline.
You will be Help Scout's first Business Development Representative, responsible for opening conversations with ideal-fit mid-market prospects and driving pipeline for Account Executives. This is a foundational role where you'll help shape the outbound playbook from the ground up—deciding which accounts to target, which messages resonate, and which channels work best.
Key responsibilities:
- Research and personalize outreach using an AI tech stack to identify prospects (Support/Success leaders, Operations managers, executives) and tailor messaging using company frameworks and templates
- Work defined target account lists of ideal-fit mid-market companies based on ICP criteria and strategic campaigns
- Execute multi-channel outreach across email, phone, LinkedIn, and video
- Test and iterate on messaging, personas, and channels; track conversion rates and recommend improvements
- Maintain updated reports and dashboards showing campaign success rates and progress toward targets
- Partner closely with Account Executives to hand off sourced meetings with well-documented contact and account details; use AE feedback to improve future handoffs
Help Scout is a fully remote company with 120+ teammates worldwide. The culture emphasizes ownership, curiosity, craft, and progress over perfection. The company values transparency, generosity, and accountability.
Requirements:
- 1–2+ years of experience as an outbound BDR or SDR at a B2B SaaS company, with a track record of meeting pipeline or opportunity targets
- Experience prospecting into companies with 250+ employees and tailoring messaging by industry, job title, and other criteria
- Strong communication skills with both prospects and internal colleagues
- Active use of AI tools in workflow for research, list building, or writing; experience with HubSpot and GTM platforms (Apollo, ZoomInfo, Sales Navigator, or similar) is a plus
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Coachable mindset with interest in growing into a closing role
