Pliant is a modular B2B payments platform combining commercial card issuing, payment accounts, FX, and spend management. Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Berlin, Pliant serves 5,000+ businesses and 40+ partners across Europe and the US, issuing commercial cards in 13 currencies across 32 countries.
As Business Development Manager for the UK and Ireland, you will lead the commercial expansion of Pliant's payment solutions in these markets. You will identify, engage, and convert prospects into customers while managing long-term client relationships to maximize retention. Your responsibilities include overseeing the full sales cycle from prospecting through closing, staying current with UK fintech and travel industry developments, and providing market insights to inform product and go-to-market strategies.
You will serve as a market expert and thought leader for Pliant, representing the brand at industry events and client meetings. Working closely with Customer Success, Underwriting, and Product Management teams, you will help define the local UK/Ireland strategy and shape the product for specific market needs. You will manage pipeline, report progress to senior management, and collaborate with sales, growth, and revenue operations teams to ensure alignment with business goals.
The role is UK-based with remote flexibility; co-working spaces are available in London and Manchester if you prefer in-office time.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3–5+ years of proven experience in sales and/or business development within fintech, SaaS, or financial services
- Solid understanding of the financial technology landscape, credit, lending, and B2B payments
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels
- Experience launching and scaling products or services in new markets, ideally within the UK
- Strategic thinker with hands-on problem-solving and customer acquisition approach
- Self-motivated and goal-oriented; ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced startup environment
- Strong analytical and reporting skills; ability to assess market opportunities and identify growth levers
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) required
