Karius is a venture-backed clinical metagenomics company developing advanced diagnostic solutions for infectious diseases using genomics and AI. The Biostatistician II role supports the design, analysis, and interpretation of clinical, observational, translational, and research studies with minimal guidance.
Key responsibilities include independently performing statistical analyses for clinical studies, product development, and evidence-generation efforts. You will partner with clinical and scientific stakeholders to define study objectives, endpoints, and appropriate statistical methodologies. You'll develop statistical analysis plans including sample size and power calculations, analysis populations, and sensitivity analyses. The role involves analyzing clinical, observational, laboratory, and real-world datasets using appropriate statistical techniques, supporting both prospective and retrospective clinical studies.
You will develop and validate statistical models to evaluate diagnostic performance and clinical outcomes, with particular focus on diagnostic performance measures including sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic value, and agreement measures. The position requires handling complex data structures including longitudinal data, survival outcomes, missing data, confounding, and subgroup analyses. Collaboration with Data Science, Bioinformatics, Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, and R&D teams is essential to ensure statistical rigor and appropriate interpretation.
Additional responsibilities include reviewing datasets and analysis outputs for accuracy and validity, managing assigned statistical analyses independently, interpreting findings and communicating results to technical and non-technical audiences, and contributing statistical content to study reports, manuscripts, regulatory materials, and scientific communications. You'll develop robust, reusable statistical programs and documentation supporting reproducible analyses, and contribute to continuous improvement of statistical processes and standards.
The role offers exposure to cutting-edge diagnostic technology and the opportunity to see direct impact on patient care at scale. Travel up to 15% for team events is required.
