Brex is seeking a Bill Pay Counsel to serve as the embedded legal expert for its bill pay and payments products. You will partner closely with engineering, design, and product teams from ideation through launch, translating complex money transmission and payments regulations into practical product decisions. Your responsibilities include advising on regulatory implications of product architecture and payment flows, tracking US state and federal money transmission laws and international payments regulations, drafting and maintaining customer agreements and disclosures, and supporting licensing and bank partner requirements for product launches.
You'll work across cross-functional teams including compliance, risk, marketing, sales, partnerships, and bank/payments-network relationships to solve business problems creatively while maintaining compliance. You'll provide real-time legal guidance as products are designed and built, help teams make sound build-versus-defer decisions, and advise on product and marketing collateral and customer communications. The role requires deep expertise in money transmission requirements, state money transmitter licensing, Bank Secrecy Act/AML requirements, EFTA/Regulation E, NACHA operating rules, and required disclosures.
The position is based in Seattle with a hybrid work arrangement requiring a minimum of three coordinated days in the office per week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday), plus up to four weeks per year of fully remote work.
