The Benefit Account Manager is responsible for the oversight and ongoing management of assigned group benefits clients. This role bridges sales, implementation, and client success, working cross-functionally with sales and support teams to ensure smooth onboarding of new and renewing accounts while maintaining high service levels.
Key responsibilities include:
• Coordinate and conduct implementation for new and renewing clients, including strategy meetings and document collection with business consultants
• Market, analyze, and negotiate benefits and rates across all coverages; request renewals from carriers
• Conduct pre-renewal and renewal meetings (in-person or virtual) and negotiate renewal terms with carriers
• Quote open-market options when necessary and deliver final renewals to clients
• Obtain applications, monitor benefit administration portals, and ensure timely submission (minimum 15 days prior to effective date)
• Perform first-bill audits and host post-open-enrollment meetings to review outcomes
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key client contacts to ensure high retention and satisfaction
• Deliver 24-hour response times to client requests; provide status updates if resolution extends beyond 24 hours
• Ensure client compliance with benefits contributions and regulations; maintain COBRA knowledge
• Provide education to clients and key contacts on benefits and compliance matters
The role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and discretion when handling sensitive client and employee information. You'll need proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe, plus the ability to navigate multiple platforms for accessing client, employee, carrier, payroll, and HR information. Travel for client meetings is required.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 2–5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of experience, skills, education, certifications, or job training programs
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Health and Life Insurance License (mandatory)
• Knowledge of employee benefits, compliance, and payroll
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret SBC documents, technical procedures, insurance regulations, and governmental regulations
• Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize
• Intermediate or higher proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe
