As a Backend Engineer, you'll join one of three autonomous engineering verticals (Demand, Supply, or Fulfilment) and contribute to building scalable, maintainable microservices that power search and discovery, bidding, curation, logistics, payments, and customer support. You'll work in a small, collaborative Agile team with end-to-end responsibility for your services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable microservices and features
- Own the quality, resilience, and maintainability of your team's services throughout their lifecycle
- Collaborate closely with product designers, product owners, and frontend/backend/mobile engineers
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and advocate for development best practices
- Fix bugs and refactor code to keep products reliable and maintainable
- Participate in Technical Week—a dedicated innovation and knowledge-sharing initiative
You should bring 7+ years of software development experience with strong object-oriented programming foundations, plus 3+ years working on customer-facing products in e-commerce, fintech, or SaaS. Backend service expertise is essential: you understand API design, SQL, relational databases, and how to build high-availability, low-latency systems. The tech stack is primarily Ruby, but prior Ruby experience is not required if you're eager to learn. Excellent English communication, a collaborative mindset, and solution-oriented thinking are critical.
