Salary: USD 130,000 - 175,000 / annual
BETA Technologies is revolutionizing electric aviation, and this Regulatory Affairs Lead role is critical to navigating the complex global regulatory landscape. You will serve as the bridge between BETA's engineering, certification, and compliance teams and regulatory authorities including the FAA, EASA, ICAO, and Transport Canada.
Your responsibilities include monitoring and interpreting aviation regulations and policies, assessing their impact on company operations, and tracking global policy trends with a focus on emerging technologies. You'll develop position papers, regulatory comments, and briefing materials for executive leadership, and support the company's policy positions and advocacy efforts with industry associations and government bodies.
You'll represent BETA in working groups, industry committees, and technical panels (e.g., GAMA, AIA), and liaise directly with regulators and standards organizations. Partnering closely with Engineering, Certification, and Quality teams, you'll interpret regulatory expectations and provide policy input during the development of compliance strategies and certification roadmaps. You'll also support internal departments in obtaining necessary demonstration, experimental, and operational approvals from regulatory authorities to enable testing, flight demonstrations, and special projects.
Additional duties include preparing briefings for internal stakeholders on regulatory risks and opportunities, supporting internal communication and training on regulatory changes, and staying current on international aviation rulemaking and bilateral agreements.
This role requires 7+ years of experience in aviation regulatory affairs, certification, or policy analysis, with direct experience engaging with FAA, EASA, or other civil aviation authorities. Knowledge of Part 21, Part 23/25, Part 145, and SMS regulations is highly desirable. You'll need excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and policy research capabilities, and the ability to collaborate across technical and legal disciplines. Regular travel (up to 50%) is required. The position is based in South Burlington, Vermont or Washington, DC, with a hybrid arrangement.
