Staffbase, a unicorn AI-native Employee Experience Platform company (valued at $1B+), is seeking an Associate Legal Counsel to join its Legal team in Berlin or Chemnitz. The role focuses on building and running a comprehensive regulatory compliance program while supporting broader commercial and corporate legal matters. Primary responsibilities include: - Driving Staffbase's regulatory compliance program end-to-end, tracking obligations and implementing requirements across NIS2, the Cyber Resilience Act, the EU AI Act, and global data protection laws - Leading the roadmap for new and renewed certifications (e.g., ISO 27001), coordinating with Security, Product, and other teams to prepare for audits - Drafting, maintaining, and updating internal policies on a defined review cycle as regulations evolve - Designing and running compliance risk assessments on a consistent schedule, tracking remediation to closure - Building and delivering company-wide compliance training programs - Championing the use of AI to streamline compliance work—from regulatory monitoring and policy drafting to risk tracking and reporting - Supporting commercial and corporate legal work, including customer contract review, procurement agreements, and corporate governance matters - Independently monitoring the regulatory landscape and translating developments into practical business guidance - Partnering cross-functionally with Security, IT, People, and Product teams to embed compliance into day-to-day operations Required qualifications: - Fully qualified lawyer with 2nd State Exam in Germany or equivalent EU jurisdiction qualification - Strong understanding of EU regulatory landscape, particularly data protection, cybersecurity, and AI regulations - Experience building or managing compliance programs - Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion - Excellent communication skills and ability to translate legal concepts for non-legal stakeholders The role offers real latitude to modernize compliance processes using AI, moving away from paper-heavy approaches toward faster, more scalable solutions. You'll report to the Head of Legal and work with a 550+ person team across offices in Chemnitz, Berlin, London, Sydney, Tokyo, Prague, and Minneapolis–St. Paul, supporting 1,500+ customers.
