HackerOne is seeking a Director of Commercial Legal to lead and scale the global commercial legal function at a pivotal growth stage. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, you will architect legal frameworks, systems, and leadership infrastructure that enable enterprise expansion, international growth, and AI-driven product innovation across North America, EMEA, and APAC.
You will own the global commercial legal strategy and execution, establishing clear risk standards and negotiation frameworks that balance enterprise growth with disciplined governance. You'll serve as the final decision authority on commercial risk within defined thresholds and support complex enterprise transactions across regulated industries and international markets.
Key responsibilities include building and developing a high-performing, multi-jurisdictional team across commercial, privacy, and procurement legal support; scaling leadership capability and creating succession depth; and designing the legal operating model for international expansion and product growth.
You will architect an AI-first legal operations strategy that leverages AI to improve contract review, knowledge management, and workflow automation. You'll establish measurable KPIs for contract cycle time, risk trends, and negotiation performance, applying first-principles problem-solving to eliminate legacy complexity and redesign workflows for scale.
Cross-functional partnership is essential: you'll work closely with Sales, GTM, Finance, Security, and Product leadership to accelerate deal velocity without compromising integrity, guide the organization through product launches and regulatory evolution, and translate company strategy into department-level priorities and measurable outcomes.
Minimum qualifications: UK/EU or US qualified lawyer with 12+ years of legal experience, including significant in-house leadership in technology or SaaS; demonstrated experience leading a commercial legal function at scale; extensive experience negotiating complex, cross-border enterprise agreements.
This is a remote role with flexibility, targeted for candidates within approximately 50 miles of London, Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area, Austin, Washington DC, or Boston, allowing for occasional in-person collaboration.
