Salary: USD 264,800 - 331,000 / annual
Scale is seeking an Associate General Counsel, Commercial to support its Physical AI business unit, which focuses on building general AI systems that can reason and act in the physical world. This is a senior individual contributor role with significant scope and visibility.
You will serve as a close business partner to Physical AI leadership, handling the full lifecycle of commercial agreements and legal strategy. Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating master services agreements, statements of work, and order forms with autonomous driving and robotics companies in close collaboration with the Sales organization. You will also work on partnership agreements, reseller and vendor agreements, data processing agreements, and other complex commercial contracts.
Beyond transactional work, you will assess legal risk and provide clear, practical guidance to help the business make informed decisions. You'll design and implement policies and processes to manage legal and business risk at scale, and provide hands-on support to sales, product, and cross-functional teams. This role offers the opportunity to shape Scale's commercial legal function as it grows alongside the business.
Required qualifications include a JD and California Bar membership in good standing, plus 9+ years of combined law firm and in-house experience with training in commercial agreements, data licensing, and intellectual property. You should have demonstrated passion for partnering with Sales to close revenue deals, experience negotiating complex data licensing and technology agreements, and the ability to communicate clearly with both business and technical audiences.
Ideal candidates will have a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude, a collaborative and low-ego approach to cross-organizational work, and a deep interest in artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and robotics. Nice-to-have qualifications include experience with legal issues specific to autonomous vehicles or robotics, and product or privacy counseling experience.
