Element Biosciences is seeking an Associate Director of Product Management to own the software and bioinformatics product roadmap and lead strategic conversations around AI, multiomics data partnerships, and data monetization models. This role bridges internal R&D teams and external partners (pharma, biotech, AI/technology companies) to define how Element structures access to and commercializes multiomics data through licensing, co-development, and platform/API models.
You will report to the SVP of Product Strategy and serve as Element's primary representative in partner-facing discussions about data strategy, business models, and AI implementation. Key responsibilities include defining product vision and strategy for software and bioinformatics tools; translating business goals and customer insights into product initiatives; working closely with researchers, bioinformaticians, and R&D software engineers to understand workflows and data needs; prioritizing features based on voice-of-customer, usage data, and business impact; representing Element in pharma alliance conversations where AI or data analysis is critical; building and maintaining the company's perspective on where AI creates real product value; and collaborating across software engineering, bioinformatics, R&D, and commercial teams to deliver high-impact solutions.
You will own detailed product requirements (PRDs, user stories), sit on the PM leadership team, drive successful product launches and customer adoption, and monitor usage metrics and satisfaction to ensure product-market fit.
Required: Life Sciences degree with 8+ years of product management experience (or advanced degree with 6+ years), including end-to-end ownership of software or bioinformatics/data products at increasing scope. Deep background in genomics, multiomics, or related life-science domain; demonstrated day-to-day collaboration with R&D/engineering on software or bioinformatics products; ability to independently carry partner and customer conversations about data strategy, business models, and AI. Preferred: experience structuring or negotiating data licensing, co-development, or platform partnerships; familiarity with applied AI/ML in life-sciences or data-heavy product contexts; experience in companies transitioning from hardware/consumables to software/data-inclusive business models.
Full-time, exempt position based in San Diego. 20–25% travel in the US and internationally for partner and customer engagements.
